Top of the World Highway, on the way back to Alaska

On the way back it was not a race with time and we could allow ourselves to take a couple of pictures

Alpine tundra. This is the highest point on the Highway, 1200 meters

A road leading down to forty mile river. This is a famous waypoint in Jack London’s stories

Top of the World Highway. Forests burning in the distance

Poker Creek. The US - Canadian Border, Population: 2 people!!!

Jack Wade Dredge, built in 1934. This dredge is closed, but the area along Taylor Highway still has active gold mining

Taylor Highway. On the way to Tok we see more fires

A radius of approx 200 miles was burning

The road as a divide between death and life. There’s purple fireweed growing on\along the side of the road

Along the Tok Cutoff Highway on the way down to Glennallen and Valdez

Along Richardson Highway on its way to Valdez. We walked off to see Willow Lake

One of the branches of Copper River

Closer to Valdez mountains kept getting bigger

These are the Chugach mountains streching along the southern shore of Alaska from Valdez to Anchorage

Worthington Glacier, elevation 1870 meters. One of the oldest glaciers in Alaska

Closer to the glacier it was getting colder

I was tired from all the driving and decided to take a break
